The 2026–27 school year is off to a wonderful start! Over the past two weeks, students have been reconnecting with friends, building relationships with teachers and staff, establishing classroom routines, and settling into a new year of learning.
Across CVUSD, our campuses are filled with energy, curiosity, and connection. We are grateful to our teachers, classified staff, administrators, families, and community partners for the preparation, care, and teamwork that have helped students begin the year feeling welcomed and supported.

Every School Day Matters
The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to establish routines that support student success. Regular attendance helps students build relationships, remain connected to classroom learning, and develop the habits they need to thrive.
Families can help by:
Establishing consistent bedtime and morning routines.
Scheduling appointments outside the school day whenever possible.
Planning transportation and backup transportation in advance.
Contacting the school early when an absence cannot be avoided.
Reaching out if a student is experiencing challenges that make attending school difficult.

Castro Valley High School Trojan Connections
CVHS Link Crew Welcomes the Class of 2030
Before the first day of school, Castro Valley High School’s Link Crew welcomed incoming ninth-grade students and helped them prepare for the transition to high school. Through activities, campus connections, and support from student leaders, freshmen began the year feeling welcomed, informed, and connected to the Trojan community.
Senior Sunrise Celebrates the Class of 2027
The Class of 2027 began its final year at Castro Valley High School with a special Senior Sunrise gathering at Trojan Stadium.
At 5:45 a.m. on the first Friday of school, seniors arrived in custom Class of 2027 clothing to spend time together, enjoy breakfast snacks, and celebrate the beginning of their senior year. Although the cloudy weather prevented students from seeing the actual sunrise, the stadium video board provided one—ensuring the tradition could continue.
Students brought positive attitudes, creativity, and plenty of Trojan spirit to the first of many senior events planned for the year.
Senior Sunrise offered the Class of 2027 an opportunity to pause, connect, and look forward to the experiences and memories ahead. We wish our seniors an exciting and memorable final year at CVHS. Go Trojans!
Strengthening the Student Schedule Experience
This year, CVHS made important improvements to the student scheduling process based on feedback from students, families, and staff.
Developing student schedules requires balancing graduation requirements, appropriate course placement, student interests, and available opportunities. CVHS strengthened its process so that when adjustments were needed, students had a clearer and more consistent pathway for having their schedules reviewed.
A key improvement was establishing a more defined prioritization process to address schedule errors first, including missing classes, duplicate periods, previously completed courses, and graduation requirements. CVHS also created a more systematic process for reviewing student preference requests so that each request could be considered thoughtfully and consistently.
These changes helped our counseling team respond more effectively to student needs, improve communication with families, and make schedule adjustments whenever possible. While CVHS will continue refining the process, we are proud of the progress they made toward a more transparent, responsive, and student-centered experience.
📣 From the Board Meeting
A Strong Start to the 2026–27 School Year
The Board received an update on the districtwide work that supported a successful start to the school year. Highlights included staffing and enrollment, professional learning, student services, school operations, and programs that helped students transition to new campuses.
CVUSD welcomed 40 new certificated staff members, while spring and summer recruitment efforts filled 62 certificated and 44 classified positions. As of August 5, the district was serving approximately 9,750 students representing 60 home languages.
Summer Improvements Across CVUSD
The Board also received an update on facilities, maintenance, and operations projects completed or underway this summer. Major projects included the new Canyon Middle School athletic fields, classroom portable relocations, accessibility improvements, HVAC upgrades, and lighting improvements at the Adobe Art Center.
District teams also completed cleaning, painting, plumbing, electrical, flooring, landscaping, irrigation, and technology projects across CVUSD campuses in preparation for students’ return.
